The definition of logos is to appeal based on logic. For example: The high school drop out rate for black and Hispanic males is the highest, with rates of 11% for blacks and 23% for Hispanics compared to only 6% for whites. Males are much more likely to dropout than females. I gathered this example off the website www.associatesdegree.com/2009/06/25-shocking-facts-about-american-high-schools/ .

Pathos is appeals based on emotion. My example is going to be based on one of my experiences that is emotional to me. For example: I tried for over a year to become pregnant and ended up having to take medication in order to become pregnant. After a period of time I began to think there was no hope for me and my dreams to become a mommy. After while of trying I then found out I was pregnant, I was overwhelmed with excitement. As time went to my eighth month mark I ended up losing one of my grandfathers and knew my son would never get the privilege of knowing him. A month later my son was born and now I am a proud mother of a wonderful two year old.

Ethos is appeals based on credibility or character. An example would be when everyone stands up at a wedding for the brides grand entrance. This shows credibility and character.

I believe knowing about Logos, Pathos, and Ethos can help your writing by improving the way you capture your audience’s attention and by making your essay worth reading.
